Thale (Norwegian 2012) by Aleksander L. Nordaas - cranefly - 03-14-2015

I sit through crap DM wouldn’t touch with a Bodidharma cane, or if he did, he’d clobber it into “Movies that were so godawful, even I couldn’t get through it.” I sat through this one. Don’t make the same mistake.

Still, you gotta give the tiny-budget filmmaker the benefit of the doubt, right? And Thale cost a mere $100,0000. It takes place in Norwegia, but you wouldn’t know it from the footage, because the director shot most of it in a basement.

Synopsis: Out in the boondocks, two crime-scene clean-up dudes stumble upon a laboratory hidden beneath a shack. There they find a naked woman who has been the subject of experiments.

The two dudes make a nice contrast and show considerable promise. But they’re never given much to do. They just sit around waiting and never change in any way. It’s like one of those uninspired Saturday Night Live or Monty Python skits where, despite a talented cast, the ideas just aren’t coming, so they simply do their best to fill time.

As for the woman (who never talks), before she can provide some eye candy, the dudes toss a trenchcoat over her, which she wears to the bitter end. Which brings me to perhaps my biggest pet peeve in cinema: dressing people in clothes when a scene clearly calls for nudity. This movie committed this sin from beginning to end. Deeply offended by so much gratuitous cladity, I must give this film my lowest rating of √(-1).

Oh, and now for a SPOILER ALERT! I mean it! And yes, I’m a mean son of a bitch.
The woman grows a tail and cures cancer. The end.

I've been thinking of checking this one out because the trailer looked kind of cool. Now I won't.
