The Lunchbox (2013) - Drunk Monk - 01-26-2015 Been wanting to see this since its Oscar controversy. I like Irrfan Khan's work and Nimrat Kaur was a revelation. This is a beautiful film, very modest in its approach, and really brought me back to Mumbai. No swordfights, no great sets, no hallucinations and strangely, no Bollywood numbers, but it had some moments that bordered on pure poetry, and that trumps everything. At the beginning, S noticed the involvement of a French production company to which I retorted 'this better not end like a French film.' Sadly, it did just that. But it was sweet so I'll forgive that just this once. It bothered me that the lunchbox isn't a box but a dabbas, which is cylindrical, not box shaped. I know, OCD right? |
