Pablo Moses @ Moe's 7/5/14 - Drunk Monk - 07-06-2014

After Ribsy's Nickel at the Crow's Nest and the Tubes at the Boardwalk, this one wasn't packed and I had to actually buy a ticket. It was fun - roots reggae, true old skool from one of the first gen originators of the genre. D.J Spleece, a UCSC reggae DJ that I've befriended was spinning and we hung for a spell. Met his wife, Linda. He's a Kung Fu guy, spent a few years in China, and we connected after I liked his show page on fb (he's a fan of KFTC). Militia of Love opened - they were somewhat of a standard local reggae act. I saw the lead singer get a table for to older women, family for sure, and that was really cute. They did get the crowd skanking. Pablo is in fine form in his mid-sixties, chanting down Babylon in full force. Dubbing is a Must is a fav anthem of mine, and I hoped the band would take it into a heavy dub but they didn't - kept it skankable, not so stoney. Two JNK showed up and hung until midnite-thirty before bouncing, after which another JNK member appeared and we finished out the show around 1ish. Dm is starting to get recognized in the Rasta Cruz scene. The Cruz is small so we sight each other a lot.
