Robopocalypse by Daniel Wilson - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 06-23-2014 I stayed away from this book. It seemed like one of those books rushed out to fill a certain need, much like all the Zombie books and movies. But there is a sequel to this book and I was out of books so I grabbed it from my library ( I love my library) And the book is fine. It has a gimmicky way of telling the story which is a series of Flashbacks told by a man looking at archival footage. So, it is all snippet of stories. The novel would have worked just as well as a straight novel without the framing device. I never got a sense of dread or fear that the end of the world should have evoked. The main bad robot doesn't strike fear into me. He calls himself a god but he is always easily defeated in the battle with the humans. Ultimately it read easily but never engrossed me. Lots of mechanized mayhem. Robogenesis: The Sequel - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 06-30-2014 It's the first only different. You don't get the end of the world chapters, but you do get more of the battles. It had all the things I didn't like about the first about, only not as well done. More chapter intros that are immediately explained by the chapter itself. The book is divided into three parts and unfortunately, the characters I like from the first book don't show until the latter third so he can delve deeper into the new Robot baddy. And about this AI who controls the robots and unleashes war on the meat sacks, it never comes off as all the intelligent. It keeps losing the battles. It does't put up much of a fight. Should we not fear these super-intelligent computers because ultimately we have the pluck to beat them? It's all very medium. |
