I'm always wondering what is the mind set of these bands that once used to fill stadiums are now playing for free on the beach? Do they love to play so much? Or dammit they need the money? And who is in Blind Melon that is allowing them to tour and what do the play after there one song?

I might go out for Smash Mouth this Friday. T has recital practice to which I must chauffeur, which will put us downtown around that time, and it's just a short skip to the bandshell. I think she'd like hearing All Star live, as she knows it from Shrek. I would too actually as that's fun song and should play well on the beach.

Yes. We paid the extra five bucks and saw them. I did like Starship. Didn't like the direction the band took after Kantner left.

Of course, you could just be shitting me and I wouldn't know, but I'll stand by my awe.
I might just go see Starship now, FOR FREE, in your honor. If I do, I'll take an extra $5 and spend it on kettle corn or a fried twinkie or some other Boardwalk treat.

Damn - it would be fun to see The Tubes but our dogs need human comfort during fireworks nights.
The Fixx hold the record for the only concert I walked out on because they were so boring live (Austin,TX - 1982 or something). Maybe drunk and on the beach would make them bearable.

No, I didn't go. I was at a memorial at Shoreline for a friend that recently succumbed to brain cancer. He was a great guy - the operations manager there and beloved by many. Over 500 people attended.
But S & T went. S really liked it, which is surprising as she's really picky about her music. She was very impressed. T was amused.
We were at the boardwalk yesterday entertaining some friends and it was crazy packed. That doesn't really affect us however because when you can walk to the amusement park from home, you don't really stress it.
I'm hoping to make the Tubes next week for the 4th, probably the early show.

The Boardwalk was packed, more packed than I have ever seen it.
We got a good place a few rows back on stage right. The band came out and sounded okay, a little old and meandering perhaps. Their drummer and lead still have their licks, and Fee is amusing. Mind you, this is the first time I saw them, so I never saw their great stage shows. There was a little costuming, a trenchcoat, then a straight-jacket. Then the fog rolled in and it got chilly so T and I went up through the scenic warzone that is C-brite on the 4th, and then went home. We left before White Punks on Dope (if they even did that at the Boardwalk) and She's a Beauty (musta been the closer).
Funny to imagine Vince as part of them back in the day.
