Sensation @ Oracle 9/14/13 - Drunk Monk - 09-16-2013 Sensation is this monster EDM tour based on it's sound system and stage. It's a crazy rotating dj booth with glory ramps for dancers, fully equipped with pyro and water fountains, speakers strung up all over disguised as giant jellyfish and huge projection screens with coral-like frames. It's been going for over a decade, toured all over Europe, and had some dates in Africa and Asia. It's doing it's first U.S. tour now. Strangely impressive. They capped it a 5K for Oracle, which was spacious (tix were $150+ I heard). The crowd was mostly Asian or gay (although I didn't see that many gay asians). There was a rain of rovers (ala The Prisoner), over-dramatic announcements of the DJs (like Cirque Du Soleil), hotties in fuzzy bikinis with lightsabers (always a winner) and intense strobe effects (lucky no one seized). I was introduced to Dr. Andrew N. Bazos, who was mentioned in the NYT article last week on the rise of EDM drug deaths (see http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/10/arts/ ... j6BNad14g&). Man, back in my rave days, all we had was a strobe light and some tin foil. Re: Sensation @ Oracle 9/14/13 - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 09-16-2013 Were you able to get your twerk on? Of course! - Drunk Monk - 09-19-2013 There were hotties in fuzzy bikinis with lightsabers. What else do you do with hotties in fuzzy bikinis with lightsabers? Dm was having a grand time and forgetting his woes in the mayhem, twerking it up, when one of the base drops hit him sour. Suddenly everything took a dark turn. Dm started thinking about his pops, about what death might feel like, wondering if death has an impact like a big bass drop, or if it is just a slow withering away, like water evaporating. Dm started imagining what his pops would have thought about an EDM bass drop, something he'll never experience ever, and thought about all of the things pops saw that dm will never see. Dm needs a break from Rock Med for a spell. |
