From the Sky Down - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 01-02-2013 It's the U2 documentary about the making of Achtung Baby. Using archival footage and current interviews with the band, they look back at the turmoil surrounding the band as they struggled to find out what to do after Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum. It talks a lot about those two albums as well and how they painted the band into a musical corner. For 2/3rds of the film it was really good. They showed the struggles they were having at Hansa studios in Berlin, about how the band felt like breaking up, there was a lot of discussion about the songs are made and how Bono comes up with lyrics. I watched the movie in two sittings and the first night it was awesome as the band was at a deadend musically and didn't know how to get out of it. On the second night it was 'We know our way out, time to go' and the film ended, after only really talking about two of the songs on the album. I kind of expected more, so that was disappointing. I watched the press conference of the Toronto Film festival which was also included on the disc. Bono does not like documentaries about himself. He felt like he'd been mugged. He said this sitting next to the director of the film. So, watch the first two-thirds and the press conference. |
