Bamboo Gods and Iron Men (1972) - Drunk Monk - 10-08-2012

Ever just crave some blaxploitation and you go to netflix streaming and regret it the next day? Didn't think so. I must seek professional help.

This film is god awful. Somehow, they found half a dozen people in Asia that cannot do martial arts to make a martial arts flick. The lead, James Inglehart (who's most famous role was Randy Black in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls) is a full-head taller and 5x as muscular as any of the villains he fights. I kept hoping it would cross that delicate threshold from bad to so-bad-it's-funny, but it never quite got there.

About midway through, I started fantasizing about the film being recast by DOOM. PPFY's brother Ross (brutha of a brutha) would have been perfect as the bumbling inspector. Dr. Bob could have been the crazy mute martial artist. The hero and his g/f? Tough call, but I was leaning mostly towards Greg and tQ. The bald white Asian-wannabe villain was LB all the way (in fact, he was the initial character that got me going on this train of thought). The hitman would be PPFY or ED. That's as far as I got.

No sword fight could save this one.
