The Avengers - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 05-05-2012 I'll make this easy. Go see it. Now. Even without swordfights. We'll talk when you get back. Re: The Avengers - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 05-05-2012 No Emma Peel? No John Steed? Forget it. Re: The Avengers - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 05-06-2012 I love him as I hate him. Would it be better to call him a dilettante or a Luddite? Re: The Avengers - El Dingo - 05-22-2012 I'm right there with you G-Man. I hate most Marvel crap (I'm a DC anti-hero fanboy), but this thing rocked the house. It was a masterpiece of comic dialog with the techno-geek (Iron Man), retro naievete (Captain America), cold war spy stuff (Black Widow), everyman weapons expertise (Hawkeye), Superman-invulnerability (Thor), and animal rage (Hulk). Sam Jackson as the zookeeper was top-notch. It also sparked stupid controversy which adds spice to the mix. It even had the non-superpowered everyman who sacrifices himself and saves the day at the eleventh hour. Everything the rest of the world hates about America is here in egotistacal glory. I think we can say 'The Avengers' is the ultimate 'Fuck Yeah - America' movie. My only complaint was that the villain (Loki) was kind of lame. I loved this movie and will see it again before it leaves the theaters. Thank you again Greg for the 'Stark Industries' sign prop. I am always inspired to drink heavily and pick up a welding torch. not feeling it - Drunk Monk - 06-04-2012 It was an absurd romp with great effects and some funny lines, but superhero films just aren't working for me anymore. Sure, it's hard being a superhero, no one understands the responsibility and being 'different' ...wah, wah, wah. You're a goddamn superhero. Man up! Maybe if I had sat though all of the previous films (I only saw IM1&2) I would have been more into it. I'll side with ED's "Fuck Yeah - America" comment. I liked Downey's lines. I still want to punch Gwyneth in the face. Samuel doesn't work as Fury for me (Sgt Fury was the only comic that I actually read extensively as a kid - the old war stuff, which was like comparing the original G.I.Joe toys to those of today, I suppose). It was all about Scarlett for me, as she has no real superpowers but is the most kick-ass hero of the bunch. The rest are all pansies in tights and armor. If Black Widow was in a swordfight, that would have been great. All that being said, it was great mindless entertainment for a while. I wasn't bored. Tweetn the 'n' bomb - Drunk Monk - 06-05-2012 That's why I want to punch Gwyneth in the nose. She's so pathetically white (no offense to any of you). Samuel L. needs to sit her muthafkn ass down for a muthaflkn chat. Re: The Avengers - El Dingo - 07-20-2012 Saw it again with Dee Dee. She loved it too. This was the night after the Colorado Batman Massacre. It was a weird vibe. The theater parking lot was pretty much empty. I blame Katy Perry in 3D. There was four other people in the audience. Granted, Avengers has been out for months, but Batman was opening and Spider-man was in week 2. It definitely loses some visual 'oomph' on the non-iMax screen but was still highly entertaining. Re: The Avengers - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 10-01-2012 I own the Blu-Ray. The gag reel was fun. The extra super added movie was a bit week. Probably should watch it with the Joss Whedon commentary on. The film was much better on the big screen. But I kept thinking there were a lot of similarities between Jennifer Bailey and Scarlett Johanson as the Black Widow. ha, you should tell her that - Drunk Monk - 10-02-2012 She's on facebook. She'd be flattered. Re: The Avengers - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 10-02-2012 I am her Facebook friend. Tell me I'm not the only one who sees that? you are the only one who sees that - Drunk Monk - 10-02-2012 you got to understand, the jenn bailey i know was a deadhead partner in crime and is now the mom of two gorgeous daughters, as well as an aspiring bluegrass fiddle player, not a russian uber-assassin in a catsuit. Crap - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 10-02-2012 It's the red hair and the attitude. attitude? - Drunk Monk - 10-02-2012 you sure you don't mean cleavage? Re: The Avengers - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 10-02-2012 Tomato-To ma to afterthoughts - Drunk Monk - 12-07-2012 The Avengers made me want to put on a funny suit.... ...and fly around... ...with Scarlett Johanssen. ![]() |
