John Carter - cranefly - 03-20-2012

What I really like about the John Carter poster is the subtle way it hints at the terrible political embarrassment of those otherworldly times.

I lived through the painful Jimmy Carter years. While there was no doubt in my mind that he was an intelligent and well-meaning man, so many things were working against him, not the least of which was his black sheep brother John Carter. It's hard to know where to begin with the man's faults. That he drank to excess is beyond question, and the reddish haze surrounding John Carter in the poster hints at how he likely saw the world through two quarts of vodka a day. He never did come to come to a full realization of what a total loser he was, instead believing that -- as the the President's brother -- he was a man of destiny, a leader equal to his brother, walking tall even as he lurched from bar to bar. He developed quite a following, as can be seen in the poster, poor souls who likewise believed that they were important because, well, they were the drinking buddies of the President's very own brother!

It couldn't last forever. And when Jimmy Carter exited the White House, John Carter should have known that his own exit was at hand. Yet when the bars started banning him, he refused to accept it, and he got into fistfights and was arrested time and again, until at last, in desperation, he set off across the Gobi Desert, armed only with eighteen canteens of vodka and camels without humps and a legion of ill-advised followers stumbling in his wake.

Has there ever been a more cautionary tale? Take heed, my friends. Take heed.

In case it hasn't been mentioned today, I love Cranefly.

Thanks for reviewing this poster. It really helped in the decision process.

All because Dejah wore clothes, IMO.
