Curious George - Drunk Monk - 02-22-2006

This was not the blissed out George by the bottle of ether - it was not my George. I would have liked it better if it was just some other dude and his monkey. Naming the man with the yellow hat Ted made it into a Will Ferrell vehicle. It's told from Ted's perspective, not George's. Drew Barrymore is caricatured just like Drew Barrymore. That's weird. It echoes the book but is too absurd, just too absurd. The H.A. Rey on the ship was cute. I hate to pull the old "it's not like the original books" criticism, but that's what I have to say here.

The Jack Johnson soundtrack works well though. I come and go with him. He got me with that song Breakdonw because it was playing when I was recovering from strep and had to deal with my Shaolin monk master visiting. I caught him live at Vegoose but I was wrestling with this raging bulldyke fireplug of a tripper during his set so i couldn't really tune into him. After going to Kauai, I got back into him. Still wouldn't go out of my way for him, but it's better than Phil Colllins soundtracks, beleive me...

Tara really liked it. She's starting to really get into movies at the theater. she said she liked Nanny McPhee better, which surprised me since she reacted more to CG.
