The Island - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-20-2005

I had to know. I had to know why this film tanked at the box office. Granted, I did know some behind the scenes stories about the construction, (The construcition coordinator was a million dollars over budget on a set and didn't know it. And he didn't complete a set on time. As in "The film companies here, where would you like them to shoot?") but bad construction doesn't make for a bad film. At least I hope not.

I saw it over the weekend. I now know.

Once you get the fact that the people are clones and they are being harvested for parts, the drama is pretty much over. If we'd gotten this information two thirds of the way through the film, it might have been a bit stunning. But I knew this sitting down to watch the film. Then it's a case of wating for something to happen. And nothing really does. Their clones. They find out they're clones. They escape. They have dramatic chases. They go back and rescue the other clones.

There were so many leaps of logic, my legs got tired from the hopping.
