Santa Cruz - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 05-25-2008 The Tubes, Eddie Money, and Blue Oyster Cult are playing for free at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk bandshell and none of you thought fit to tell me? Thanks a lot. Who knew The Tubes were still even together? Have the DM tell you about the time we saw Soft White Underbelly at the Keystone (I think it was the Keystone. It had key in the title) Re: Santa Cruz - thatguy - 05-25-2008 I heard that BOC was going to play, but I hadn't seen the dates yet. I just went and looked up the info: http://www.beachboardwalk.com/concerts/ Quote:June 20 THE ROMANTICS The Tubes keep appearing periodically in the area, usually at the Brookdale Lodge for New Years or Halloween or something like that. Since the BL is under new ownership, and going through renovations, I suspect that that won't happen any more. --tg More Cowbell Please! - thatguy - 07-23-2008 Reminder: BÖC @ Boardwalk this Fri. Two shows: 6:30 & 830pm. --tg DM must go - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-23-2008 I don't think he has a choice. ever since Sudden Impact... - Drunk Monk - 07-23-2008 ...the bandshell has never been the same for me. ![]() yes, that was the keystone. i remember it well. you keep reminding me. FREE Friday Night Bands on the Beach - Drunk Monk - 06-04-2013 FYI ED The Boardwalk is just a short walk from my bungalow and the Seabright Brewery is right in between. :drinkers:  :drinkers: Quote:Home > Events > FREE Friday Night Bands on the Beachhttp://beachboardwalk.com/concerts/ Re: FREE Friday Night Bands on the Beach - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 06-05-2013 I have friends that have been going to these for quite some time. I've always been surprised by the line up. I'm amazed the Greg Kihn band isn't on the line-up. Re: FREE Friday Night Bands on the Beach - El Dingo - 06-05-2013 I want to try and see B.O.C. but that's the Friday before our week-long camping trip and it might be difficult. Re: FREE Friday Night Bands on the Beach - thatguy - 06-06-2013 They always to an early and a late show (6p & 8p). I saw the English Beat the first time they regrouped and came back around. That was a great show. But I think Dave Wakeling must live around here, cause it seems like they play Bay Area venues every couple of months now. I saw BOC there a couple of years ago. It was a bit of a zoo. Very hard to find a place where you could actually see. They kind of dialed it in. I'm going to the Cracker/Camper show on July 19. It'll be interesting to see how these Santa Cruz-rooted group that have traditionally been anti-establishment take on playing 2 shows at the Boardwalk… CvB has a new album out (haven't done an album since "New Roman Times" in 2004?). --TG We should meet for Camper - Drunk Monk - 06-06-2013 We're planning to do that show too, tg. Camper is so Cruz to me. I remember seeing them several times when I last lived here. When we saw they were playing, S & I both chuckled and said we had to go. I'm hoping to do BOC, Berlin & War too. Sorta depends on how the summer schedule falls... Re: FREE Friday Night Bands on the Beach - thatguy - 06-23-2013 DM - Looks like I'm not going to make it to CvB. I'm flying back from Edinburgh that night and don't get in till 7:30-ish. I don't think there's anyway I'll make it back to SC in time for the show, and even if I did, I'd probably pass out. Post a good review for me… --tg bummer, but understandable - Drunk Monk - 06-24-2013 we must hook up some time in the cruz for a beer or something. Caught a little of Gregg Rolie last Friday - Drunk Monk - 07-01-2013 We were on Seabright beach but could hear it. The sound was great there. We went up to the cliff and we could see the crowd. It was very pleasant...and free. BOC - Drunk Monk - 07-15-2013 Friday we checked out the free concert at the boardwalk which was one of my fav high school bands - Blue Oyster Cult. I think there are only two surviving members now, plus a bass player that toured with Joan Jett and Meatloaf. I remember seeing BOC as Soft White Underbelly at the Keystone in Palo Alto (was that with you, Greg?) and dancing to Burning for You at my senior prom with my date, the hottest junior on campus. So many memories with that band. Now BOC sounds tired, a mere echo of their early selves, but it was fun for the family, a short stroll from home to a big party, although S left early because she was getting cold. BOC did their three big hits, of course, Burning, Godzilla (and now T wants to see a Godzilla flick) and a finale of Reaper. They also did Black Blade, their cheesey ode to Moorcock's Elric and Stormbringer, a pulp series that I was very devoted to in High school. I felt Reaper needed more cowbell and deeply regretted not bringing one of my own (as the cowbell player from that classic SNL skit was named Gene after all). I think I had more fun posting lyrics on facebook than actually seeing the band, but what do you expect for a free concert? Plus with the PAC RIM screener, I was deep in this Godzilla groove, which was very nostalgic. Re: FREE Friday Night Bands on the Beach - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-15-2013 Yes, DM and Greg saw BOC at the Keystone. Boy, were they loud for that little tiny place. |
