The Art of the Straight Line is a book of essential wisdom covering Tai Chi, mindfulness, creativity and the art of living and dying. Lou had undertaken the writing of this book in the latter years of his life. It has been edited by his wife Laurie Anderson and his friends Stephan Berwick, Bob Currie, and Scott Richman.
Lou was an accomplished martial artist whose practice began in the 1980s. He studied with Chen Tai Chi pioneer Master Ren GuangYi. This book is a comprehensive collection of Reed’s writings on Tai Chi. It includes conversations with Reed’s fellow musicians, artists, friends, and Tai Chi practitioners, including Julian Schnabel, A. M. Homes, Hal Willner, Mingyur Rinpoche, Eddie Stern, Tony Visconti, Iggy Pop, Lars Ulrich, Darren Aronofsky, DM, and masters from the Chen family - the creators of Tai Chi.
The Art of the Straight Line goes on sale March 14 and is available now for preorder wherever books are sold.

The book will be published by Faber in the UK & Ireland on March 16th.

Are you getting tickets? I was thinking of reaching out to Laurie closer to the date. It’s on my calendar. We haven’t connected since before the pandemic.

RE: Laurie Anderson - thatguy - 12-13-2023

I haven’t thought that far into the future

I did like let X = X a lot, so I might

RE: Laurie Anderson - Drunk Monk - 12-19-2023

During the Phil show last Friday ( http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=1023&pid=69288#pid69288 ) I got a DM from some of Laurie Anderson's/Lou Reed's people about doing a Tai Chi event in SF like they've done in NY while she's here. I have a telemeeting with them in a few hours.

RE: Laurie Anderson - Greg - 12-19-2023

Kewl!

RE: Laurie Anderson - Drunk Monk - 12-19-2023

Plans are afoot.

Basically, it's something akin to this but for SF - https://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?71371-Lou-Reed-Tai-Chi-Day

Next step is to run it past Laurie and if she's in, the next telemeet will be with her and the team (of which it looks like I'll be included).

If Laurie is not in, then it all dies there.

Note that this is confidential - just another D00M secret I'm sharing because I can't do my own video xmas carols.

I'll bet Laurie does her own Christmas Carols.

I rest my case, your honor.

RE: Laurie Anderson - Drunk Monk - 12-19-2023

Laurie was autotuning before autotune was a thing.

Of course, she autotuned to a totally different bot voice. But still, she was way ahead of that curve.

RE: Laurie Anderson - Drunk Monk - 01-04-2024

Laurie does not want to do a Lou Reed Tai Chi Day when she comes in March. She still wants to do it however, and wants to coordinate with the The Kitchen Sisters (Davia Nelson & Nikki Silva) who she recently did a podcast with - listen here: https://kitchensisters.org/podcast/lou-reeds-tai-chi/?mibextid=2JQ9oc

There was talk about doing it at TCEC 2024 on Sunday, but I doubt that will happen.

Hmmm, Nikki Silva is based in the Cruz...

RE: Laurie Anderson - thatguy - 01-04-2024

Are the Kitchen Sisters related to the Kitchen Brothers who built the courts of mystery temple on the westside?
