Save the Date! Or not - Greg - 02-26-2017

So, Haggis and I are going to take our little movie out for a stroll. We've bought a projector and a screen are going to do a rough cut screening of it on March 12th at the West Berkeley Fencing Center. It's not quite finished, but we are getting to the point where we want to see whether we have a film or are just kidding ourselves.

I did screen it for the Queen's folks down in Florida and they seemed to enjoy it, even laughing in a couple of places that were meant to be funny.

As of this writing on Feb 26, the film still does not have music or a finished narration. Currently, Haggis has made some narration that I have added to the film. The music was supposed to be completed by last week, which means I might have it this week. I also have the titles to put in. Again, those were in the hands of our Graphic Artist and should be completed. I'll know more after a meeting with Haggis.

I also only have the temp photos and video in place. I can't order the real ones until I lock in the picture, but I'm thinking by the end of this week, I'll know all the photos that are going to go into the picture.

As for who is invited, to the screening, I don't know yet. On the one hand, I want people to see it so I can get feed back. On the other, I would like people to see a finished films and not have to explain about all the roughness that currently resides in the film that I'm aware of. Again, probably going to work that that all out with Haggis tomorrow.

But there will be a premiere down the road for the finished film. Haggis and I are also kicking around the idea of taking it on the road if we don't get it entered into any film festivals just so people can have a chance to see it.

so... - Drunk Monk - 02-27-2017

Is this an invite?  Or just a tease like 'yea, gonna show it, but you guys aren't invited'?

The Brotherhood is great at feedback.  We are the Hendrix of feedback.

Um...will there be snacks?

RE: The Last Captain - Greg - 02-27-2017

I'm torn. I'd like you guys to see it, but I don't want to burn you out seeing it too much. This isn't the premiere just a rough cut. I'd be happy if you came, but if you come to this one, I would still like you to come to the final cut. And if you are only going to one, I would prefer if you saw the finished product.

I was think ED would come since it will be in his neighborhood. The rest of you would have hella long drives and I wouldn't expect that.

There will be pizza and beer.

PIZZA & BEER! - Drunk Monk - 02-27-2017

Burn us out?  There's swordfights, right?  We don't burn out on those.  Heck if you only knew how many times I've gone over videos with our on staff vid guy (and those are usually only YouTube shorts)...

Always there to support a DOOM bro, man.  'Cept if it's bail money cuz we're all doing what we can.  We'll see what the schedule holds for us all - it's a Sunday and daylight savings time.  I do have a calendar item that day doing some fundraising for my kid's school, but I may be able to sneak away.

Honestly, you had us at pizza & beer.

If you invite ED, he'll probably hijack the projector to show Tetsuo or some defecation video.

RE: The Last Captain - Greg - 02-27-2017

Then I will see you at the WBFC at 6pm on March 12th. I'd say we could commute up from Saratoga, but I'll probably show up an hour early to set up.

If I can get away... - Drunk Monk - 02-28-2017

If I can weasel out of that commitment, I'll make it over.  Perhaps I'll even show up at Saratoga and be your equipment bitch.  Or perhaps I'm just teasing you because I can't even get away and I likez 2 tease u.

srsly, I'll let you know how my schedule shakes out as it gets closer.  Working on something big for March right now and if it comes together, it'll dramatically shift my schedule around next month.

RE: The Last Captain - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 02-28-2017

I'm in + 1.

Looking forward to see you all - Greg - 03-05-2017

Okay! We are a week out. I'm not nervous at all. No sirree, I am ready.

That being said, I have a shit ton to get ready before next week. My punch list, which I will write out tomorrow, will be many pages long.

I did finally put together a page on IMDB. In Haggis's words, it's like we have a real movie now.

I'm starting to look into festivals to enter. I'm learning about making Digital Cinema Packages so I can bring the film to theaters and have them project it.

In my head, the film will premiere in the Bay Area on April 19th, venue to be determined, but I'm thinking I would like to get a small venue of about 500 seats. After that, I'm thinking we head to Oregon to show it at the Charles Selberg Institute.

Chinatown - Drunk Monk - 03-05-2017

I might have a contact for the Great Star in Chinatown. It's a friend of a friend. NOT a tong connect so you can keep all your fingers and won't have to mule illicits to repay the favor ('cept to me and I'm easily bought off by fyne whiskey and cheese). Srsly, I could reach out if you like and put you in contact if they are open to it. No promises tho - I don't really know the manager but a friend is in tight with him. Let me know...

A little sphincter pucker - Greg - 03-12-2017

Today, March 12th, is the day. The first screening outside the nest.

HK and I did a partial run through yesterday up at West Berkeley Fencing Center. Mostly it was just to see if all the gear worked. It did. One of the coaches came and cut off our viewing as he had to give lessons, so I saw about half of the film.

All I wanted to do after the screening was go back and fix many things. We still only have about 20 percent of the music There are a lot of volume issues with the sound track. There are spelling mistakes in the sub-titles and lower thirds and I'm missing one of the interviewers in the credits at the end. And he will be at the screening tonight.

Probably the biggest problem is the color correction. I did a first pass and in some areas, the color looks good. In others, it looks like I had beer goggles on when I did the color matching. It hurst most in two interviews that I did that had a lot of sunlight in them. Over the course of the interviews, the sun moved as the sun does. Unbeknownst to me, this caused the color temperature to shift during the shots. Which means while in some shots the color correction works great, in others it is awful. I'm hiring a color-grader this week to work on the problem.

Makes me want to call the whole thing off.

Last night I went out for dinner with the 'Rents. My mother got it into her head that we should be celebrating this momentous occasion. Yeah, about that.

Regardless, the film flies tonight. I think people will like it. I think I still have a lot of work

Looking good so far - Drunk Monk - 03-12-2017

I got partway into the screener and it's looking good. Heck, I wish our nonBAB KFTC final cuts looked as good. Just make sure everyone understands it's a rough cut and that'll cover the typos. I emailed you some comments. Hope to finish it tonight.

Hope all goes well!

And if not, UNLEASH THE YETI.

5 stars - Drunk Monk - 03-12-2017

Finished it this afternoon. Enjoyed the sword fights. Could've used a Bollywood number.

Just kidding. It was great. Excellent work, Greg.

Somebody made a trailer! - Greg - 03-14-2017

I guess this could go into the movie trailer section, but tough. I don't need no quibbles from the riffraff

Update biotches - Greg - 05-04-2017

So, it's been a struggle, I won't lie. Motivation isn't easy to come by some days. Going on the trip to Utah through my rhythm way off. And while I was gone, HK put together 9 pages of change notes. But that was then and this is now.

Today, I might have finished the story portion of the film. As in, don't touch the story. Which leaves color grading, music, and narration.

The music is being recorded on Tuesday, despite the fact I haven't heard any yet. The narration just needs to be recorded and then added back in. Color grading is going to be a pain in the ass. I still don't know quite how to do the turn around.

I also still have to swap out all the time-coded footage for the actual footage. And I still needed to get the actual footage. But that was kind of waiting on story lock.

So, hurray. Sort of.

Double hurray! - cranefly - 05-04-2017

Looking forward to seeing this.
If you ever need a fresh looker, prior to release, I'll volunteer.

But just so you know, my hearing is not the best, even with hearing aids.

Which brings up the question, will you be providing a subtitle option?

Yeah, yeah, I know.  Your plate is full!

Congrats on the progress.
