RE: COVID-19 - cranefly - 03-17-2020

Of late there's been a major cringe factor to checking google news in the morning.

You know, fixing a pot of coffee, some oatmeal, putting it all down in front of the computer.  Taking a good sip, bringing up the browser, navigating to the site.  Cringe.

This morning's big dominant headline:
Brady Leaving Patriots.

RE: COVID-19 - Drunk Monk - 03-17-2020

I am officially on 'furlough'.

Time to check out EDD again.

The EDD site keeps timing out.  It's probably overloaded.  At least Stacy got laid off on Friday and managed to apply before the maelstrom.

Fuck.

RE: COVID-19 - El Dingo - 03-19-2020

The "Cruel World" festival has been postponed till 09/12. I'm already scheduled to take off for L.I.B. 09/17.

So it goes...

Sorry to miss Tiger Claw Champs. It's my one time a year guaranteed to hang with DM.

I guess we now live in "Interesting Times"

RE: COVID-19 - Drunk Monk - 03-19-2020

The TN Tiger Claw office closed today. We do plan to reschedule TCEC, but we don't know when.

Cali Roots postponed to Oct 9-11, which is the weekend of our 25th wedding anniversary.

At this time, the only event that's still on for 2020 for me is San Diego Comic-con.  There are a few optionals - a Hog Farm gig, Northern Nights & Dry Diggings, but I've not commited to any of those.

RE: COVID-19 - Greg - 03-24-2020

Okay, this post could go into so many places. It could go in Stro because I've been thinking about Neil Diamond a lot. It could go in Rocketman because that's part of the problem. Or maybe I should just start an earworm thread so we can talk about what is currently playing inside our heads.

But I'll put it here because 'Sweet Caroline' was part of an ongoing joke about Covid-19. Touching Me. Touching you. Stop, Neil, stop.

Neil Diamond posted a video with new lyrics about don't touch me, don't touch you and since then, Sweet Caroline is on constant refrain in my head. It could be a Zeitgeist thing as well. There is another Neil Diamond joke about singing a few bars of Sweet Caroline and getting the Bup Bup Bah in return, much like the shave and a haircut knock. It's irresistible.

When Sweet Caroline takes a break, "I'm still Standing" by Elton John creeps in. Mostly because I made the Queen watch Rocketman and as we all know that's the big finale song.

I'm getting the earworm twofer.

Q: How many earworms does Spock have?

A: Three.

A right earworm.

A left earworm.

And a final front earworm.

RE: COVID-19 - cranefly - 03-30-2020

Every time I see this topic lit up with a new post, I fear it will be that dreaded short one.  You know, like "Fuck!"

Announcing the first of us to go positive.  Though it could signify the same for a close friend or relative.  So far I haven't seen that among the lot of us.  Or maybe you're just  not saying.

I figure I have about a 70 percent chance of getting it this go-around (there will be further cycles, no doubt, yearly if not later in the year).  I don't have good reason to say that, except that we're not being as careful as we should -- not like that video I posted on my facebook homepage.  We don't do all that cleaning and isolation after a grocery trip.

But I'm thinking we should, though it's a bit late.  The house and cupboards and fridge and freezer could be harboring the little bastard just waiting for an opportunity.

But I'm trying to get better at stopping anything new at the door.  So as LCF heads to Costco, I've primed a couple spray bottles with bleach (way expired, by the way, and it does degrade, but hopefully somewhat potent), and instructed LCF to put things on the wooden deck outside, and I'll handle it from there.

But I'm not going to be as thorough as those videos instruct.  Not that I think it's overkill.  It's just that we likely already have uninvited guests.  We have to be careful in a hand to face way.  And wash hands often, hope for the best.

Not only don't I want to get this, I'd feel embarrassed and guilty if I did, for putting a greater strain on an already stretched healthcare system.

Better get ready for LCF's return.  Take care, all.

RE: COVID-19 - Greg - 03-30-2020

Good luck. No sickness here.

Does anyone else hear Steely Dan's "Hey, 19" whenever they see Covid-19? Is that just me? Is that just the fever talking?

Fever? What fever? I never mentioned a fever.

RE: COVID-19 - Drunk Monk - 03-30-2020

I keep getting these weird symptoms, mostly allergy or psychosomatic crap, but it makes me paranoid.  At my mileage, there's all sorts of weird maladies flaring up on any given day.  The whole asymptomatic issue with covid is spooky.  Stacy was just remembering how she felt weirdly ill several weeks ago.  She could've sworn she was coming down with something but nipped it in the bud with her arsenal of curatives and rest and felt better a day later.  Was that it?  I had a similar experience just before the holidays, which seems way early, but you never know.

I hope for an uneventful thread here.

Meanwhile, Santa Clara County just released this PSA

Our ol' 'hood has come to this.  Sad

I'll be back in the SCC tomorrow.

Ugly. But that's what the cries of 'Fake News' gets us.
