dammit.
so stro told me that he was totally pisssed off after that blade broke and didn't know he had been trached. he went outside for a cig, took some puffs and stewed in anger. then he noticed that whenever he took a drag on his cig, he saw smoke coming out of his throat. i can still see him acting it out - takes a puff, sees smoke, says 'what?' takes another puff, sees more smoke, says 'oh fuck.' takes another puff, more smoke. "FUCK!" Calls some of the team over and tells them to look. They all freak and take him to the hospital.
he told it in a very funny way.

not really. all i remember is that a few of our teammates went with stro to a show once and got backstage and met neil. i remember stro saying it was too much of a hassle to see neil. he enjoyed the shows, but trying to connect backstage was a pain and neil was preoccupied obvs. stro said the last time neil came through, which may or may not have been during my time there (if it wasn't, that was just prior), stro didn't bother to reach out for tix.

I guess it will be one of those years. They just cancelled the Santa Cruz Film Festival. I blame DM for not doing more to do the spread in the Cruz.

Not only did the SC FF cancel, but I got my first rejection. The Anatolia film Festival does not want me.
I feel so alone right now.
Also in weird synchronicity news I got a letter from Carl Borak today. I'm on Carl Borack's radar because HK and I talked to him during the making of Stro. Although he was good friends with D'Asaro, we couldn't interview him because he lost half his jaw to cancer. He did give us the lead on the footage of SJSU during the 1980s.
Carl sent HK and I an email about a proposed documentary he is in the middle of making. He wanted to follow the four Team USA foil fencers on their run-up to the Olympics. The big twist for him would be how the Pandemic affected that quest.
Greg Massialas pitched us the same documentary back in 2017. I was so excited by this opportunity. Couldn't sleep as I put the the budge together at having a job for four years.
It fell apart when Greg wanted us to pay for it along with paying the principals $50k each.
