Some how I got on The Examiner's daily mailings. This was in today's missive:

https://www.sfexaminer.com/entertainment/65th-s-f-film-festival-announces-2022-program-and-tribute-to-michelle-yeoh/

Quote:Michelle Yeoh and Sandra Oh will be among many of the familiar faces in this year’s star studded San Francisco International Film Festival, reports Examiner contributor Jeffrey M. Anderson. The program for 2022, the festival’s 65th year running, boasts a line up of roughly 130 films from 56 countries. Just as interesting as the films are the filmmakers: 56% of the directors are female or non-binary, and 52% are BIPOC. The Bay Area will see the screen in a few features, a short doc on the Black Panther Party, “American Justice on Trial” and another on the California Gold Rush, “Land of Gold,” are among the offerings. The festival will run from April 21 to May 1 in theaters near you

The Yosemite Cinema has opted to go with Ambulance rather than have EEAAO.

Quote:A look at the marvelous career of Michelle Yeoh

Hollywood has too many sins to list—not least how swiftly it discards women the minute they sprout a single grey hair. However, after a decade or two, once you have a full head of grey hair as an actress, the opportunities return- but only as a satellite character in a film. Sure, you can be the grandma or the sagely old maternal figure- which is just a grandmother by another name- but older actresses rarely are given a leading role outside of historical pieces.
That's why I'm so intrigued by A24's multi-dimensional epic Everything Everywhere All At Once, starring Michelle Yeoh. The film is an action-comedy starring an actress over 40? It feels like I'm in another dimension just writing that sentence. I should be surprised, but Michelle Yeoh isn't your average actress. The 80s Hong Kong cinema legend owns one of the most compelling filmographies in history. GQ sits down with Yeoh in the video embedded above and talks about her most iconic characters.

I want to see that covered if Men at Arms ever returns for a new season.

M@A won’t be back so I went with Den. https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/everything-everywhere-fight-scene-choreography/

I love Fanny packs. I have several and have used them for years at festivals. EEAAO makes them cool again. I feel included.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Don’t worry, G-Man — it will still be there for you to hate when you get around to it.

That movie had many layers and a refreshing irreverence woven into it’s tapestry. The acting was *really* good. Just the most solid movie I’ve seen in years.

FOMO is real, baby.

RE: Everything Everywhere All At Once - thatguy - 05-08-2022

I went to lunch with my mom in Santa Cruz, then, after she went home, we went to the theater downtown and caught this. Really enjoyed that. It was clever story telling. Lots of subtitles, but so engaging.

I had no idea that was such a mother / daughter story. The same thing as when I saw Whip It (the roller derby movie with Ellen Page) I thought that one was going to be a story about roller derby and it was all emotional mom stuff. If any daughters took there moms to see this today, not knowing, whew...lots of tears I imagine.

I heard the writer(s?) worked on this for a long time. It must have been a struggle to figure out how to put the pieces together cohesively, but it totally works. The humor is good, as is the acting. Great cast...Jamie Lee is perfect antagonist for Yeoh.

Lots of nods to other things, some nods more subtle,  Hitchhikers Guide? ...and I'm feeling like James Hong and Michelle yeoh had a scene almost like this:

I'll probably have to watch it again at some point.
