RE: DOOM art - El Dingo - 12-18-2018 One footnote I wanted to mention. Before meeting KB, DM and I had a beer at Strike's Brewing . I had never been there before (never really even heard of 'em). I paid cash for one round and did not sign their guest book or anything. The next day I received 'Welcome to Strike'es' email and continue to receive occasional promotional emails. I did plug them into my Google GPS by name because they were kind of hard to find. I actually think it's cool that Google appears to be concerned about me and wants to make sure I stay in contact with the places I visit. They know where I go and what I do. Always. RE: DOOM art - Greg - 12-18-2018 They are always listening. I accidentally activated Siri today when I was relating a story to the Queen. Back on Thread - Greg - 01-11-2019 Yes, I am a poor art curator. But as I am packing up moving boxes (there's a thread on that somewhere here) I came across a piece of Artwork of King Bob's that he gifted to me, I'm going to guess at one of Christmas gatherings. It's dated 2001 ![]() RE: DOOM art - King Bob - 01-11-2019 Hey that's pretty good. I'd totally forgotten about it. Thanks. Papua New Guinea sculpture garden at Stanford - King Bob - 11-08-2021 I thought I'd revive this thread to tell you about this. Back in the mid 90s someone brought over some tribal artists from New Guinea, and they made sculptures and created a little park on campus at Stanford. (I discovered while looking at the campus map to find the music building.) The works are both in wood, and in stone (California pumice from Mono Lake). There are some 10-20 ft high multi-figure wood pieces, some painted poles, and two large slit drums, as well as the stone pieces. Also the carvers saw Rodin's "Thinker" on the other side of campus, and did their own. Highly recommended if you like Oceanic art. There's an Atlas Obscura page with nice photos and some explanation. It's in a grove of trees and quite peaceful too. RE: DOOM art - thatguy - 11-17-2021 My mom told me about this new exhibit at Stanford. It’s got balls! —tg https://news.stanford.edu/2021/04/21/alicja-kwade-site-specific-installation-stanford-science-engineering-quad-suggests-alternate-realities/ Quote:A new installation brings playful and thought-provoking public art to the Science and Engineering Quad RE: DOOM art - King Bob - 11-17-2021 That's pretty close to the Anderson Collection, so I'll check it next time I hit that. Guo Pei at the Legion - King Bob - 10-08-2022 This show was all clothes from an apparently famous designer from the PRC, a lot of it shown originally in Beijing. And it was nuts. Super over the top clothes, with some historical references thrown in, a bit like the work of Gaultier or Vivienne Westwood, but more extreme. Definitely worth seeing, or at least check out the images on the museum website. The design of the show was excellent too, with some good semi-ambient music mixed with a bit of Chinese opera references. Also they put some dresses in the other galleries of the museum, and they played off some of the pieces in the permanent collection. So you can get a taste of the show just by going through the other galleries. RE: DOOM art - King Bob - 12-08-2022 I'm doing a show/sale this weekend, showing only my recent laser cut pieces. I know all of you are busy, and I'm not asking you to come, but I thought I'd post this link anyway if for no other reason than to resurrect the thread. Handmade for the Holidays Open Studio 2024 - King Bob - 05-10-2024 DM wanted this info, so I am posting. My friend invited me to show at his open studio next weekend and it's here: 1622 Andalusia Way, San Jose, CA 95125 (a couple of blocks off Meridian and Curtner) Saturday and Sunday 11-5 (although I'll probably close up more like 4) If you're in the South Bay for some reason, come by, but I don't recommend making a trip for it. RE: DOOM art - Drunk Monk - 05-10-2024 By next weekend, you mean 5/18-19? That's a booked weekend for me already. :-( RE: DOOM art - King Bob - 05-10-2024 Yes, 5/18-19. Festival season already? RE: DOOM art - Drunk Monk - 05-10-2024 Almost. That starts the following weekend. The weekend prior, Stacy & Tara are in Hawaii on a yoga retreat. I’m left at home to take care of bizness, Yuki & prep, plus that Sunday is a belated qingming for Lam Sifu. RE: DOOM art - King Bob - 05-20-2024 Open studio went well. I sold 14 pieces (12 collages and two sculptures) and made $140. Surprisingly, my friend's neighbor bought two of the most abstract pieces, which pleased me. And he gave me a ream of 13x19in. cardstock in a nice blue/grey. RE: DOOM art - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 05-20-2024 (05-20-2024, 03:55 PM)King Bob Wrote: Open studio went well.
