RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-29-2023 One more odd annoyance. The CSI officer dropped his black fingerprinting brush on the carpet. That dust is so fine and sticky. Our neighbor came over yesterday with his vacuum for the shattered glass, which helped a little but also spread it around. It's a nasty black stain which will likely have to be professionally cleaned. My folks have a steam cleaner in the closet that I've never used. I should see if I can figure that out. At least my fence mending is holding... RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-29-2023 Cleaning up is such a trip. Finding all sorts of odd things. They also got some of my dad's mint coin sets - those have registration numbers so I've sent that to the police along with the list of other missing items. I believe they send those numbers to pawn shops and coin collector shops. They missed several of my mom's better jewelry pieces but I can say what was taken. Her jewelry boxes were half qualtiy and half costume. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-29-2023 I take back what I said about the mint coin sets. The robber(s) dropped two and they are unmarked. So there's really no way to track the stolen goods. I found an old cub scouts timex watch that my dad kept. It has 'rocky horror' scratched into the crystal. Must've been a junior high school thing of mine. The setting was only two days off, so I set it and wound it. Might keep it running for a while. Not sure why. Seems to be the thing to do... Apparently, she decided in the evening that there was some item at a store somewhere in Sunnyvale that she required and decided to make a go at it. It was dark and rainy and she got lost. While trying to find a recognizable road home, she rear-ended someone. She said she's Ok as is the other driver. Their car wasn't damaged and they drove home. Her airbags didn't deploy, but the car want drivable and got towed away. The nice officers on the scene gave her a ride home, but she needed to get to her car in the wrecking yard before the weekend to get her belongings. I spent the morning trying to figure out how to get her from Cupertino to Sunnyvale and back. Now, I'm busy w/insurance and softly trying to suggest that she doesn't need a car (the struggles of getting her to the wrecking yard and back say otherwise). I guess we're muddling thru. --tg RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-29-2023 Oh man. That’s rough. At least no one was injured. Muddling indeed, brother. RE: my mom - thatguy - 03-29-2023 Shout out to KB for being an ear while I was figuring transportation out. We’ll “gather” when the weather is less shitty. —tg RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-29-2023 He’s a gathering would be good. Maybe some full moon night soon. RE: my mom - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 03-30-2023 That would be a gathering. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-30-2023 Glass guys are here. They said it should take an hour or so... RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-31-2023 Deadbolts replaced. Together with the glass door fix, the damage is about $1250 RE: my mom - Greg - 03-31-2023 Aargh. RE: my mom - King Bob - 03-31-2023 Do you know if they got a car key? How secure is the garage? RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-31-2023 We got rid of the car already. My mom wasn’t driving anymore (she got into some slight fender benders) and it seemed stupid to keep paying insurance so we gave it to a family friend in need. They got a tin of keys. But I have no idea what those keys were. Probably all extinct RE: my mom - cranefly - 04-02-2023 (03-31-2023, 07:38 PM)Drunk Monk Wrote: They got a tin of keys. Just letting my imagination run wild. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 04-02-2023 That's been a nagging paranoia, which is why I changed all the locks. the other nagging paranoia is that I missed something - like maybe they got access to my mom's accounts through her old paperwork. That paperwork dates back to the 70s so there's a ton of it. I'm having ptsd flashbacks and anxiety. It was a traumatic violation. On the upside, it has invigorated my practice. A lot of Kung Fu and Iaido is visualization and I can visualize the perps. |
