RE: Iron Crotch - Greg - 08-01-2024

As I was going through some footage, I realized I had filmed the Shaolin monks performing Yi Jin Jing. Yesterday, I pondered how I would show Yi Jin Jing.

RE: Iron Crotch - Drunk Monk - 08-02-2024

Are you sure? They seldom perform Yijinjing. Usually it’s Baduanjin.

Note that GM Tu’s yjj is very different than what they do at Shaolin.

RE: Iron Crotch - Greg - 08-02-2024

I'll have to listen to it again. Dammit.

Googtrans is weak for Mandarin to English. Here are some better translators:
https://www.mandarintools.com/chardict.html (Good character radical breakdowns and it also does Yale Canto transliteration which no one uses but me)
https://www.babelfish.com (more for sentimental value)
https://translate.yandex.com/en/translator/Chinese-English
https://chinese.yabla.com/chinese-english-pinyin-dictionary.php

There's another I use that's on my workmac, but not on my PC here.

Also note, you can grab text using your iPhone. The camera function will select Chinese text just like it does with English text. Copy that and drop it into an online translator.

I'm told the WeChat translator is good but my WeChat is still on lockdown.

Okay. I started using a program called TurboScribe. It's part of the Google family of products. It doesn't do a great job, but it does transcribe and then translate and then output a time coded .SRT file. I can use the .SRT file to make translated subtitles in my film editing program.

Still not great, but it does get me closer.

Beware. Chinese is highly idiomatic. Plus many words have multiple meanings that change given context. Triple check every translation because you could really blow it here. Been there, done that, still do it occasionally but now nothing is set in print so it's more malleable.

RE: Iron Crotch - Greg - 08-15-2024

One of the transcriptions/translations for Iron Crotch is "Nine Headed Magic Kung Fu"

I might have to change the name of the movie.

RE: Iron Crotch - Drunk Monk - 08-15-2024

See now? That's what I mean about translation issues. Get those triple checked lest you make some grievous error.

I already get the nine part, knowing GM Tu...

RE: Iron Crotch - Greg - 08-21-2024

I keep thinking I'm going to get a translation that really cracks the code and offers a huge insight into the mind of Tu. Yesterday, I came across a clip where GM Tu was showing people how to break bricks with his hand. I was so excited. INSIGHT!

Yeah, not so much. Lots of discussion about wobbly bricks.

Quote:(0:02) When you strike, don't push it up. (0:07) Use the force of the blow. (0:09) The force of the blow.

(0:11) It will not shake. (0:12) Oh, this is a bit shaky. (0:13) Yes, so you have to be careful because it will shake.

(0:15) Don't use this. (0:17) Shake it, you use the force. (0:18) When you go down, (0:21) Use the force of the blow.

(0:23) Shake it, use the force of the blow. (0:25) Come on. (0:26) One more time.

(0:29) Use the force of the blow. (0:32) Come on, one more time. (0:34) It's okay, take your time.

(0:37) Because it will shake. (0:38) It's not easy to practice like this.

Yeah, good luck with that. I worked with GM Tu extensively with G2, along with three other mandarin speakers that worked at the office. He is super hard to translate. He leans into ancient Daoist terminology. It's like trying to translate olde English into Chinese. The translator programs aren't even there yet.

Sometimes I thought it was all BS jargon, akin to how academic papers hide behind absurd terminology to obscure their BS. But then he'd get results so there's that.

Is it like alchemy, or occult secret societies, where it's all coded so only the initiates can understand it?

RE: Iron Crotch - thatguy - 08-21-2024

It's all about the midichlorians

RE: Iron Crotch - Drunk Monk - 08-21-2024

It’s esoteric.

I’m not confident the initiates understand.

RE: Iron Crotch - Greg - 09-09-2024

Going to talk to one of the Bay Area masters this afternoon on the telephone. Still working on getting a meeting with a Shaolin Monk in the Bay Area who I filmed doing an IC and Qigong demonstration.

I also sent a letter to a Jade Egg practitioner that DM mentioned. I think she might be too high profile for the likes of me and my shenanigans.

RE: Iron Crotch - Drunk Monk - 09-09-2024

She lifts surfboards with her vijayjay. If that's too high profile for you, you srsly need to level up your profile...

RE: Iron Crotch - Greg - 09-09-2024

Well, duh. She does have a social media team. Aoife watching me while I shit post, is not a team.
