Justice League: The Snyder Cut - Greg - 03-21-2021 The Snyder Cut Oh, sweet Jesus. How many times, Lucy? How many times. I hoped for better, I did. The reviews weren't glowing but they did say the film wasn't half bad. Even a Doom relative did a lengthy post on why he thought the film was good. tQ was skeptical. She had only heard bad things. She bailed at 90 minutes. I watched the rest today. It had all the disappointment of Whedon's Justice League only twice as long. This is what happens when you give self-indulgence the keys to the candy store. Things I hated about the original are here but in vastly greater numbers. The whole film could seriously have used an edit. And there was the is epilogue now that was just perplexing. Again I was struck by how well the MCU put their stories in a whole timeline. They introduced all the characters in their own movies and then they put them together in one big glorious whole. In the DC world we'll do origin stories for everyone in one move while also fighting this big bad we have no connection to. I played the game of what I had seen in the Whedon version and how it fit into the Snyder version. There's plenty of that version left just put together in a different way. Not in a better way, just a different way. Some of the big set pieces are there like the fight in the gotham harbor and the battle at the Superman Memorial but they come off as a bit different. The flash origin story is a bit longer but where in the first film his quirks were charming now they come off as annoying. We also get more of Cyborgs' origin, too. I originally liked Ezra Miller flash in the Whedon version because he adds some much needed levity to what is going on but now he just comes across as dopey. I'm still looking forward to his stand alone Flash movie. (yes, Lucy, I see you) The naming conventions bugged me. The Mother boxes? The Unity? Darkseid (Pronounced Dark Side. On the nose much?) It just came across as foolish. And then after pumping up Darkseid as this big villain that is going to shake things up, it's still Steppenwolf's movie as the villain. This leaves the battle against Darkseid for a sequel. A sequel that no one is going to make. Snyder is done with the DCU. What happens next. And then there is the epilogue which just seemed like a bunch ideas that Snyder had and wanted to film but didn't connect to anything. Maybe it led to Affleck's Batman or Justice League 2? Of course, we all know Affleck is done with Batman as well. It's a post apocalyptic Batman where he teams up with Joker and the team fights somebody familiar. It's angry making. RE: Justice League - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 03-21-2021 Thank you for your service. RE: Justice League - Greg - 03-22-2021 I thought you would have given me the no-fun response. RE: Justice League - King Bob - 03-22-2021 I don't understand why people were talking like Snyder was a genius and this was going to be a masterpiece. Because no to both. RE: Justice League - Drunk Monk - 03-22-2021 I still can’t forgive Snyder for Sucker Punch http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=2018 That being said, I do want to see this eventually. I’m not as anti-DCEU as some others here. I relate better to DC heroes than Marvel heroes. RE: Justice League - Greg - 03-22-2021 You have been warned. I'm not anti-DC. I'm anti-Bad Movie. RE: Justice League - King Bob - 03-22-2021 And yet you gave it the whole four hours. RE: Justice League - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 03-22-2021 Thank you for your joyless service, Captain No-Fun RE: Justice League - Greg - 03-22-2021 FOMO, KB, FOMO. Plus people did say it wasn't bad. Those people live on a throne of lies. That is much better, Mr. Yeti. thank you. RE: Justice League - thatguy - 03-22-2021 I couldn't take WW84. I'm giving all DC a pass unless someone REALLY REALLY recommends something. To date, I've enjoyed: The Dark Night, Watchmen, and Joker. And maybe the first Superman movie. Suicide Squad and BoP were OK... That's a pretty bad record given the number of Live Action DC movies that have been made in my lifetime: 1966 Batman <-- funny, but not great 1978 Superman <-- Christopher Reeves is Superman... 1980 Superman II <-- meh 1982 Swamp Thing <-- meh, but Adrienne Barbeaux 1983 Superman III <-- meh 1984 Supergirl <-- meh 1987 Superman IV: The Quest for Peace <-- I think I missed this one 1989 The Return of Swamp Thing <-- I think I missed this one 1989 Batman <-- I really don't remember this. I probably should rewatch it 1992 Batman Returns <-- I don't know that I ever watched this all the way through 1995 Batman Forever <-- Missed it 1997 Batman & Robin <-- Missed it 1997 Steel <-- Missed it 2004 Catwoman <-- Terrible 2005 Constantine <-- I don't remember much aside from keanu being keanu 2005 Batman Begins <-- meh 2006 Superman Returns <-- Missed it 2008 The Dark Knight <-- Awesome on many levels, Christian Bale notwithstanding 2009 Watchmen <-- Pretty true to the comic, shortened for time. I was very impressed with the opening Grassy Knoll sequence 2010 Jonah Hex <-- Missed it 2011 Green Lantern <-- Missed it, heard it was terrible 2012 The Dark Knight Rises <-- meh 2013 Man of Steel <-- Missed it 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice <-- Missed it 2016 Suicide Squad <-- OK 2017 Wonder Woman <-- OK 2017 Justice League <-- Missed it 2018 Aquaman <-- Missed it 2019 Shazam! <-- Missed it, heard it was terrible 2019 Joker <-- Aweome 2020 Birds of Prey <-- OK 2020 Wonder Woman 1984 <-- Terrible --tg RE: Justice League - Drunk Monk - 03-22-2021 (03-22-2021, 12:26 PM)thatguy Wrote: 1966 Batman <-- funny, but not great Blasphemer! That Batman movie remains my all time favorite superhero movie ever. I still laugh when I think of this scene: ![]() I still want a hoodie with a United Underworld logo ![]() The only thing that kept this film from being the ultimate masterpiece it was destined to be was that Julie Newmar didn't reprise her Catwoman role. RE: Justice League - Greg - 03-22-2021 That's a great picture. thanks for sharing. Or as I see it, nice paragraphs of code. RE: Justice League - Drunk Monk - 03-22-2021 I fixed it. Apparently the United Underworld are protective of their logo. I had to surf through many iterations before I found one stable enough to post here. Must be all that heavy water.
