RE: The Last Captain - Drunk Monk - 09-21-2018

DVDs are super cheap to produce now.  You can get templates for the DVD sticker and case inset, plus the cases, and print them out per order.  We do that in-house for some of our titles.

We had a go-to DVD reproducer for our more popular titles, but he gave up the biz.  He tried to sell the machinery to TC, but we balked at the price and condition.  It was another Chinese connection.

BTW, did I ever share the Iron Horse Productions tale?

Hussars FTW!

That exclusive short was great!  Engaging, revealing, humorous, and there's sword fighting.  Luv it!  An excellent teaser for yoru doc.  Looking forward to posting it.

You ought to do a short that's just straight up on the Hussar sword combat - breakdown what you they showed you for a mini-doc, like an extra.  I'd luv to see that and I'm sure you'd get eyeballs.  I haven't seen that anywhere and the footage samples look like you shot some really good stuff, clear, well composed.  Share it to the sword communities, the fencing communities and the martial communities.  Not only would it be a good promo, it could be a fine stand-alone piece, something researchers and enthusiasts might reference, or at least share virally.  The HEMA & historical fencing peeps would go nuts over that.

Things are never cheap when you don't have any money.

I've actually done a short run of Blu-Rays on the computer with the movie but it was before I fixed the sound. The next question is do I DVDs and Blu-Rays because that's another set-up. I actually have the Blu-Ray inserts printed when I was thinking I was going to send out screeners. Like I said never say never.

Ah, the Hussars. I was cagey in the short about Norbert, because Norbert is a bit of a shady character. He actually runs a string of those schools, he didn't just happen to have a few friends in town. But he was adamant when we interviewed him them we only refer to him as a collector. He's also pretty advanced in the Hungarian Wing Chun schools (Ving Tsun) where he also runs a bunch of those schools. But like I said shady. That whole going to his school thing which turned into the Nemzeti thing was far more bizarre. He never would tell me where he lives. He even made it illegible on his release form. I have to email him through his wife. Same goes with contacting him on FB.

In order to get more information about the Hussars, I'd have to get it out of him. But it's possible. Did I mention my plates and their fullness?

Well, there is that.

You don't need more information.  Just go with what you got.  That's some pretty impressive stuff actually.

I feel ya on full plates tho.

The Hussar video that was made exclusively for Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine.

I'm contractually obligated to say that.

RE: The Last Captain - Greg - 12-05-2018

I'm not stubborn. And I will fight anyone who thinks otherwise.

I fought with the computer and software since Sunday making Masters for a Blu-Ray. Lots of crashes. Lots of spinning rainbow wheels. The computer wasn't shut off as I rendered, for three days. But I came up with the Disc images yesterday. Then I realized I needed music for the menus and better colors for the buttons on the menus so you could actually see what you selected, so I built another disc image and burned another Blu-Ray. And there you have it. I'm now doing the same for a standard DVD.

I had previously printed out 250 disc covers. They were all 1/4" too big to fit in the DVD slim case. So, yesterday while everything was rendering, I spent the time trimming off that quarter inch.

I checked out getting DVD's made online. For about $400, I can get 100 DVDs and 100 Blu-Rays with packaging and printed discs. On the flip side, it takes me about twenty minutes to burn one disc.

I also just realized that price of getting DVD inserts printed, I can get DVDs in the package with the cover.

Guess which route, I'm taking? Doing it myself or ordering online? Guess, dammit.

I'm never going to finish the Stro film, am I?

Because of cool DM connection, I got to be in a podcast with Mulan! I actually got to sit with Sifu Mimi Chan when she was here in Los Angeles for a screening of her documentary about her father.

Most of the podcast is devoted to me telling behind the scenes stories of set construction. I'm sure you've heard most them before. The most significant think about the desk is I slam the desk for emphasis a lot and I was told to knock it off.

But I did get a chance to plug The Last Captain.

You can find the podcast here: Culture Chat with Mimi Chan

DM has a done a couple of these with Sifu Mimi as well.

Cool.  Do you want to do a sweeps promo through KFM?  If so, email me.

RE: The Last Captain - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 12-19-2018

What’s the wholesale price? Maybe I need to sell a few at the shop

RE: The Last Captain - Greg - 12-19-2018

I was thinking the same thing. What would you like your profit on the disc to be?

Sending email.....

RE: The Last Captain - Greg - 01-04-2019

My fear that I would only sell one DVD has proven false. In the first two days of sales, I have sold two.

RE: The Last Captain - Greg - 03-22-2019

They are putting up a plaque at Piller's old high school in Pécs. It was a military academy. A nice woman in Hungary has been sharing pictures of the dedication with me on Facebook, completely out of the blue.

Today, she shared pictures of Piller's nephews with me.

Nephews.

Piller has nephews who are still alive.

What the serious fuck?
