Dwayne Johnson and his family have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the star revealed on Instagram Wednesday.

RE: COVID-19 - Drunk Monk - 11-23-2020

While I was in Mammoth, my cousins stopped by my mom's to bring her lunch. They had just been to a memorial for their daughter-in-law's father a few days earlier. They found out later that their daughter-in-law's sister tested positive for covid. So they called me - I hate to see him call me on the phone because I fear the worst news and he usually just texts me with trivial stuff. Since he and his wife had been exposed - and they're in their 70s and very cautious - they were letting me know out of precautionary courtesy.

They got their tests back and they are negative.

However, their granddaughter is positive. She's only a year or two old. They were watching over her during the service but didn't contract it. They suspect transmission happened directly from her aunt. The granddaughter has a fever. Their daughter-in-law is an MD - anesthesiology - and she had just got her first job under that title when the pandemic hit. She turned down the job and decided to focus on caring for her daughter. Her husband works for facebook and they are financially well off. He's exhibiting some slight cold-like symptoms. She is asymptomatic.

Crikey. I hope everyone pulls through.

Quote:Culled mink rise from the dead to Denmark's horror
Carcasses rose to surface at improvised mass grave owing to gases from decomposition

Dead mink are rising from their graves in Denmark after a rushed cull
over fears of a coronavirus mutation led to thousands being slaughtered and buried in shallow pits – from which some are now emerging.
“As the bodies decay, gases can be formed,” Thomas Kristensen, a national police spokesman, told the state broadcaster DR. “This causes the whole thing to expand a little. In this way, in the worst cases, the mink get pushed out of the ground.”

Police in West Jutland, where several thousand mink were buried in a mass grave on a military training field, have tried to counter the macabre phenomenon by shovelling extra soil on top of the corpses, which are in a 1 metre-deep trench.
“This is a natural process,” Kristensen said. “Unfortunately, one metre of soil is not just one metre of soil –it depends on what type of soil it is. The problem is that the sandy soil in West Jutland is too light. So we have had to lay more soil on top.”
Adding to the popular concern, local media reported that the animals may also have been buried too close to lakes and underground water reserves, prompting fears of possible contamination of ground and drinking water supplies.

“It seems like no one really knows the consequences of this,” Susan Münster of the Danish water board told Jyllands Posten. “I must confess I find it worrying.” At least two local mayors had demanded the mink be dug up and incinerated, Münster said.
One local politician, Leif Brogger, told the newspaper: “The authorities are playing with our environment, and using it as a dumping ground.”
Photos and videos of the emerging bodies have set social media buzzing in Denmark, with one Twitter user calling 2020 “the year of the zombie mutant killer mink” and another calling on the population to “run … The mink are coming for you.”
The Danish environment ministry said the phenomenon was a “temporary problem tied to the decaying process”, adding that the area would be monitored 24 hours a day until a fence is put up “to avoid potential problems for animals and humans”.
Kristensen said there was only a small risk to humans from the decomposing bodies, which are disinfected and covered with lime before being buried, because the virus was transmitted mainly by live mink exhaling it into the air.
It was possible, however, that “small quantities of bacteria may still be trapped in their fur”, he said, adding that it was “never healthy to get close to dead animals, so therefore this is of course something to stay away from”.
Denmark, the world’s largest exporter of mink fur, announced in early November it would cull the country’s more than 15 million mink after discovering a mutated version of the virus that could have jeopardised the effectiveness of future vaccines.
Two weeks later, and in the midst of a political crisis over the legality of its decree, the government concluded that the threat to human vaccines had “very likely been extinguished” in the absence of any further cases of the mutated version.
The country’s mink farmers have so far culled more than 10 million mink, according to the latest tally.

I can't even.

Regina, my cousin's daughter-in-law's sister who first showed as covid positive at that memorial has recovered and returned to work. Their mom Frances is now positive. My cousin's son and granddaughter are still suffering but improving. His daughter-in-law, the doctor, is still asymptomatic but they are all quarantined because that's what you do.

RE: COVID-19 - Drunk Monk - 12-04-2020

I just found out one of my High School friends is in the ICU with Covid. He's been in there for about 5 days and had a full course of various medications. The doctor is extending his treatment another ten days.

We aren't close anymore and were only passing friends back then. I don't think I've seen him since High School and only know through facebook circles.

I hear my cousin's family is slowly improving.

RE: COVID-19 - Drunk Monk - 12-06-2020

Two more friends from my Rock Med circle have contracted covid. Jeff Jorgensen - the former RM festival supervisor (I may have nicknamed him 'the jorg' in previous DOOM posts). He has recovered but then he took a bad fall that required surgery because the hematoma clotted so poorly (he's borderline obese). John Silverman - another former RMer from the good ol' daze of the Grateful Dead. He's recovering.

There's been a few in my martial circle too but I don't track them as well because my martial circle is vast.

RE: COVID-19 - cranefly - 12-12-2020

My niece Carla in New Hampshire just tested positive.  Mild symptoms so far, and no loss of smell or taste.

She's made trips to Ft. Worth, one very recent, to deal with issues regarding her dad (my older brother Rick).  I suspect that's where the exposure occurred.

RE: COVID-19 - Greg - 12-12-2020

Ugg. tQ had some court reporter friends just test positive. I'm afraid there is so much contagion in the population at the moment it will only get worse. Not to mention the dumb asses not helping.

RE: COVID-19 - Drunk Monk - 12-12-2020

My cousin reports that his family is just about back to normal. My cousin's son caught pneumonia but his chest is almost clear thanks to antibiotics. Everyone else is fine. His wife never showed any symptoms.

RE: COVID-19 - Greg - 12-13-2020

Excellent.

A Raymond Local is a BBQ Pitmaster complete with mobile BBQ unit. Every month or so, he BBQs some meat to sell to the locals. It's really good. I purchased last night's offering for Cindi and I. He sets up in our little city park for pick-up. When I went to go get it, of the fifteen people or so there, I was the only one wearing a mask. And I got a lot of strange looks for doing so.

RE: COVID-19 - Greg - 01-02-2021

Turns out one of my Boston cousins had the 'Rona. It was the reason they couldn't get together for their father's 60th birthday party. I belive she is 18 years old. She described it as the worst sickness she has ever had.

RE: COVID-19 - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 01-02-2021

Mother of a good friend just got diagnosed.
