Suicide Squad - Drunk Monk - 08-01-2016

It's all about Harley. Jared sells the new joker well. Will is Will, like always.
It's original Ghostbusters meets Guardians of the Galaxy. DC trying to catch up with Marvel, poaching a lot of trappings, a segue between BVS and Justice League. It's long winded yet iconic DC. Funny, darker, predictable, yet some nice colors and cute quips. I was amused. I think I'm more of a DC guy than Marvel. I blame Adam West. The fight scenes offer nothing new, even with Katana. It was silly for the villain who could blow up battleships miles away with lightning bolts opts to go Mano-a-Mano with the squad, but I'm glad of it - put some martial stunt peeps to work. They need jobs too.
But Harley redeems it. She needs her own movie. Srsly.
There might be a fun drinking game watching Harley's hot pants shorten. In some scenes they are digitally altered to be higher. Do a shot every time they change. Surprised they didn't add digital nipples for her wet T shirt scene. Robin had nipples in B&R. I remember Batgirl complaining because she didn't have nipples. What's up with that, DC?

I don't keep up on comics, so I had no knowledge of this, but I had to think that a hot girl in shorts with a baseball bat would not be as effective as someone with a gun. Or a bunch of people with guns. Just saying.

After a frustrating time trying to watch this on Directv, I switched over to iTunes and caught it there. Where it was a dollar cheaper and I can watch it for the whole month. Not that I want to.
The first 2/3rds were really good and then it got into the we have to press the button mode to end this problem. So, yawn.
I think Harley was ruined for me since her entire performance was in the trailers which I watched assiduously. I liked Will since he seemed to be playing someone not quite Will, which is always a treat. I thought the Joker was weak but how can you compare after Heath. My problem with the Joker was he was too logical. Again, after Heath, I think of the Joker as anarchy incarnate and Jared wasn't that.
I thought the visuals were really great. I liked the secret in the middle. That came as quite a surprise. I think the film was hampered by having to tell so many origin stories in the beginning. Felt a bit clunky. And what is Killer Crocs super power besides being ugly?
So, it kept me entertained. I kept wondering about the mandate (rumored) that the film had to be recut to better match the tone of the really fun trailer. Because this film had a lot of the Zach Snyder darkness murderverse to it.
